Masterline Toothy Critter Bass Plugs

Bass fishing with plugs is one of the fastest growing aspects of sea fishing within the UK. A variety of plugs are now available in widely different designs, but only certain types really work. Masterline have two excellent examples that do catch bass consistently.

The Toothy Critter Master Minnow is a single bodied lure and comes in sizes 3.25 inches, 4.25 inches and 7-inch. The plug has stainless steel split rings for strength, extra strong VMC treble hooks and a tough chrome plated finish. The eye connectors in the plug itself are super strong and no way they'll pull out under pressure. The plug also carries a sonic rattle ball inside the body for extra appeal.

These lures are all shallow divers working down to about 2-feet depending upon retrieval speed. The 4 and 7-inch versions are the ones to use for bass and pollack. Colours available are Blue on Chrome, Firetiger (yellow and green), and shad, which is a white-bellied version. The Blue on Chrome is a real killer for both shore casting over rough ground, but also for slow trolling behind a boat. The blue on Chrome imitates small mackerel and bass.

Also in the Masterline range is the Toothy Critter Mauler. This is a jointed version, but a deep diver, available in lengths 5.5 inches, 6.75 inches and 9 inches. The 6 and 9-inch types are again ideal for bass and pollack over rough ground. At a steady retrieve the plug has a real swimming like action, but give it a spurt of extra speed and it will dart off side to side.

The plug has the same qualities with VMC hooks, stainless steel split rings and tough connector eyes. The same colours as in the Master Minnow are available. This plug is especially effective in medium depths over rough ground for bass in the Blue on Chrome colour, but for pollack off the rocks switch to the Firetiger colour.

Both the Master Minnow and Mauler are excellent plugs that will find a place in most serious pluggers tackle boxes.
