Partridge Slow Sink Bombs
Although designed initially for freshwater fishing for catfish, carp and pike, we think this is a useful bit of gear to have in a sea angler's tackle box.
It is basically a cork float with added weight designed to sink at a slow descent speed. There is a screw in connector swivel at the top, with weight positioned inside the float body. Additional trim weights can be screwed in to the base of fixed weight to increase the speed of descent if required. There are six sizes of SSB, 5g, 10g, 15g, 20g, 30 and 40g.
The sink rate is 5 seconds per metre making it ideal for letting crab, fish or sandeel baits slowly descend down the edges of breakwaters, jetties, piers and rock ledges allowing you to fully cover all the little hidey-holes where wrasse, pollack and bass might be lurking. It is a dark cork colour and looks like natural floating debris in the water, so does not spook fish.
We've also tried this from the dinghy letting the SSB slowly trot back and sink with the tide. This is a killer method for fishing sandeel for bass, and again pollack. We intend to try these SSB's for both harbour mullet and garfish this summer too.
