Leatherman 200 Multi Tool

Whether you're a professional crew, run your own boat, or get your kicks shore fishing, the new Leatherman 200 multi tool offers a massive variety of functions that cover just about every likely scenario.

It offers an extra-small, medium and large single blade screwdrivers, a Phillips type screwdriver, a punch for penetrating leather or rope, a file, a knife blade, a serrated knife blade, wire cutters, hard wire cutters, wire stripper, saw, can opener, electrical crimper, needle nose pliers and regular plier jaws. In addition there is a 9-inch ruler inscribed on the handles that can be used when the handles are positioned horizontally. You select the required individual blades and tools by using nail nicks. To release and re secure the tool or blade there is a thumb slide on the handle that slides forwards under pressure and allows the tool to be folded down.

The soft wire cutters are positioned just below the plier jaws and easily cut through low diameter 6lb test monofilament, something my Flats guide friends rate highly important. We found the soft wire and hard wire jaws had a problem though cutting through 50lb multi strand wire. As the cutting edges come together the wire strands are forced down the sides and just flatten out. That said the hard wire jaws easily severed through a 2/0 hook shank.

The needle nose plier jaws are excellent for taking hooks from smaller fish to release them unharmed. The can opener made short work of a can of beans, and we tried the saw on a fairly thick chunk of wood and it's surprising what this short blade can achieve in quick time.

There is also a fold away eye capable of taking a lanyard for safety attachment to your wrist or belt.

Made from 100% stainless steel, it can handle the worst the saltwater elements can throw at it with just minimum maintenance. Leatherman recommend just periodical cleaning, drying and re-oiling to keep the tool in near perfect condition. It comes supplied with a black nylon sheath with Velcro fastening flip top that fits on your belt making it always to hand when needed.
