MARK DESCRIPTION
A shingle backed beach and deeper than most adjacent beaches with a short cast at high tide finding 15' of water over mainly clean sand. Produces consistent catches throughout the year, especially after rough weather.

April fishes well for spawned out flounders, eels, school bass, dogfish, odd plaice and occasional turbot to 5lbs. By May, long casts find thornback ray to 7lbs, and bigger bass move in. The best bassing is from the rocks at the extreme right hand side of the beach.

High spring tides in the evenings through July and August bring mackerel shoals and garfish tight inshore. Spring tides generally fish best for most species.

The beach peaks in the autumn with good bags of whiting from September, dabs by October, dogfish, bass to 5lbs, thornbacks, turbot and flounders.

Winter sees single large whiting around Christmas, occasional codling to 3lbs after storms, flounders, dabs, dogfish and school bass.

TACKLE AND BAIT
Two and three hooks rigs with size 2 hooks cover most situations baiting with lug or rag tipped off with a sliver of mackerel. Crab fished close in takes the flounders, bass and eels.

Use fish baits for the thornbacks on clipped down one hook rigs to maximize distance, but for the bass alternate between a sliding ledger with a 3' hook length in calmer seas, to a one hook rig with a short 12" hook length in surf conditions. Ordinary 5oz release wire leads will hold in most circumstances.

Two hook rigs and 2'0 hooks baiting with sandeel and mackerel takes the larger winter whiting. Try razorfish for the flounders after Christmas. Turbot take either fresh mackerel strips or frozen sandeel fished on long traces to give the bait movement in the tide.
