    Cheers.
    45 is my target.
Maybe a sand smelt and a weever next.
Didn't really figure on getting a shad, that was a lucky bonus.

We used to catch scad off Saltburn pier Bob, just as it is getting dark. Do you still get them?
I had three last night and dropped a fourth. I also had an eel on the top hook of a string of sabikis. Go figure.

I steer clear of the pier this time of year when the mackerel hunters are around with their 6 packs & feathers flying in all directions.

    38. Pilchard (Sardine)

Bought myself some mico sabikis and reaped the rewards.
Note: Large scales and radiating lines on gill cover are diagnostic for pilchard.

Note: Small scales, no lines on gill cover indicate herring or sprat.
Lack of sharp ventral scales indicate herring.

Yes, I got three out of four of my targets for the evening. Failed miserably to get a weever. Also caught a great many micro pollack, pin whiting, pout, and a single eel. The micro sabikis really rock.

    41. Garfish

Long overdue this one. So I had a session on Weymouth pier this morning. Result was 12 garfish and 1 black bream.

Bitter-sweet today, I caught two out of my three targets. But I lost five thin lipped mullet which has shaken my confidence in the hooks I was using. I think they are springing open and dumping the fish.
45 should be easy now. 50 is on the cards. I will be targeting the following:
    • red mullet
    • small-eyed ray
    • sole
    • thin lipped mullet
    • lesser weever
    • dab
    • coalfish
Plus any other bonus fish which happen to crop up.

    44. Dab

Not had a dab for three years, so I had a go up Whitby way. Had 47 in three sessions. Now I'm sick of them.
