After moving to North Wales last year and getting back into fishing after a 43 year break, I caught my first bass. Just a few schoolies on bait, but that inspired me. I decided that lure fishing for bass is the way to go.

Since March I have been prospecting along my local coast withing walking distance and trying any likely looking marks. I have been avidly reading the inspiring catch reports on here and asking a few questions too.

This mornings session wasn't planned. I just woke early and, for a change, couldn't hear the wind. Fifteen minutes later I was at the waters edge.

The sea was the colour and clarity of milky coffee. I decided my treasured Patchinko was the best bet. At least it would make a bit of noise.

Bang on 5am, a bit of drag on the line - some weed maybe?

Well, that wasn't what I expected!

My first psygod wibli wobli :)

Ten minutes later, bang bang bang, fish on!

It obviously wasn't very big, but it put up a valiant fight.

And at last, my first bass on a lure

Quickly photographed measured and released. Only 38cm, but I was elated!

During the next hour I was bringing in more and more weed, so home for breakfast.

Thanks guys for your inspirational catch reports, your tips and your encouragement! It finally paid off.
