Just a practice day for the upcoming 175g scheduled event on the 9th of next month. Back in the sloping field today but with a bitter cross wind reaching up to around 20mph to contend with which eased a little as the day went on. At least it stayed dry for us. Congratulations to Tommy on a surprise 175g PB. Not a favourite weight of his but he managed pull one out today - well done!

Today was the first of the clubs scheduled weight days, kicking things off with the 175g. Not a weight liked by many but it is one of the main core weights we cast so it has it's day just like the rest of them.

With the storm sweeping over this corner of the world we had our work cut out for us. The only field we could use was the sloping top field as the rest had flooding, new ponds / lakes and standing water enough to drown the farmers sheep dogs! The wind wasn't particularly cold but it was blowing from the mid 20mph right up to the high 40s and low 50s - straight across the court. This plus the lack of grip under foot made for a rather challenging day. It was never going to be a day of big distances for us as the wind made it hard enough just trying to keep the weights in court. But Tommy Mawhinney managed to yet again claw out another personal best on the 175g for the second event in a row - well done Tommy.

There were 4 casters doing battle today but with the conditions and weather taking their toll on us the day ended early and we headed home.

Next Sunday the 23rd of February is a normal field day but with the TRC coming up maybe it's time to practice ground casting and all 4 core leads. Hope to see you there

This Sunday the 8th March is our annual TRC event held in memory of the late Terry Carroll the man behind the zziplex brand. In this event we cast all 4 core weights for an aggregate score and one weight must be a ground cast. Hope to see you all there

Sorry folks but with illness and injuries some members are unable to compete. So I have taken the decision to suspend the TRC event for two weeks. Tomorrow will be used as a practice day

Ok lads I just seen the news and with the new measures being put in place such as no unnecessary travel etc. I have no choice but to suspend the ucc until further notice. I am sorry it has come to this but failure to comply will render our insurance null and void

Well today was our first day back in the field since February and what a day it was. The past two weeks we have had great summer weather but the casting gods laughed and sent heavy rain and a strong cross wind. Not to be put off 5 casters turned up to do battle, some had been training and practicing durning lockdown others turned up with cobwebs on the rods. With the wind direction blowing southwest (across the court) and animals in the other fields we had no choice but to use the sloping field, which meant an uneven oche and that hampered distances but we didn't do too badly with a few pbs achieve.

Next Sunday the 12th of July will be our annual tribute to the late Terry Carroll of zziplex fame, It's later than normal due to the coved-19 pandemic. So next Sunday come prepared to cast all 4 leads one of which must be an otg, we will start with the 175g and work down to the mighty 100g, it's hoped to have 3 casts per lead as we need to measure after each round. The longest combined distance will win a nice wee trophy, with another for second and third place respectively, so you must record a distance with each lead one of which must be an otg cast. This should be a fun day with everyone competing and I am sure the craic/ slagging will be flying. Hope to see you all there.

Well today was our TRC event in honour of the late great Terry Carroll of zziplex fame, it was held later this year due to the worldwide pandemic. It was a beautiful day with a nice wind blowing down the court for a change, with the wind going south we had to set up in the top field but on the flatter section which meant casting over a rise. The grass was getting long and due a cut hopefully soon so ground casts where difficult but that didn't stop some of us. It was a mixture of fortunes for some with several personal bests achieved while other struggled, we even had a new Ulster record today on the 125g with a 277yard cast by Stevie Ratcliffe. The rules are simple you cast all four core leads one of which you must use the off the ground cast, which you nominate early, the winner has the best aggregate distance.

My word you lot are spoilt, the grass behind me when I cast is 2 foot high, no wonder I can't get my left arm up, and get near some of the distances you boys get. Seriously though it's on my bucket list, to come to one of your meets. I might make it one day, it seems years ago since I was in Fermanagh, fishing places such as Trory, Airport and Queen Elizebeth Road in Enniskillen.

It was a beautiful day the sun was shining and there was hardly any breeze, which meant a bad day for casting but we made the best of it. We are very grateful to the farmer, Robin for getting the grass cut and letting us cast. Well most of us used the time to practice for the upcoming light line day in two weeks but with the high pressure and little wind distance would be down but it was ideal for setting up reels to run for the skinnies. Six of us casted today but some had to leave early, I hope your father is OK Graeme? One thing I did learn today was to pack sunscreen as I am a little bit burnt.
