HERE goes, friday night saw me doing a rekky at langney point and freezing my arse off for several hours for just six whiting,:cold::cold:,this was supposed to sort out our venue for last nights coddie assault:wacko:.last minute pulling out from aprb66 and carterusm, saw me have a re-think of somewhere in sussex a little more local and with reports of snow in eastbourne i didnt fancy the drive on my own,so with time on my hands i decided on a long walk to a rock/sand mark for low and right up till high.
from the start bait was going to be an issue with my usual supply of hermits standing at just seven and some frozen lug and squid left over from the friday night off i set:cold:
got to the beach at around 8 and fished hard at all ranges with the old faithful squid and lug parcels, man it was getting cold and no-one in sight but a family of foxes i was starting to question my sanity:crazy:
at around 11pm saw my first channel, then another then another, and so on ,and my dwindling bait supplies were coming under threat for high tide(yet again)so i switched one rod over to a single lug and a livebait rig, this would prove to be my saviour.
the other rod carried on right up until 1am with small tings every chuck until, bang bang slack, wound down on what felt like a decent fish only to pull out a codling of around four pounds,(foul hooked)ten minutes later another of the same weight graced the shingle and i had all but forgotten about the other rod, gutted one and released the other ,i washed my hands and had a celebratory smoke and a coffee, looked up at my rods to see that the right rod(livebaited) was arked over as if i was smoothound fishing.
i shot up spilling the last of my coffee and gently wound down and lifted into what was clearly a much better fish(this venue is known for its big bass) so i took my sweet time enjoying every lunge and dip in the deep water.five heart stopping minutes later involving spotting a bloody seal just off where i reckoned my fish was,she hit the beach and in order to get her i had to go in above my boots:cold::cold:
anyway out she came with the tiny whiting hanging neatly from the side of her lip and she weighed 14 and half pounds,B.E.A.U.T.Y I WAS WELLLLLLLLLL chuffed and spent the next two hours till about 330 this morning with toes made of ice and hands so cold it was actually painful,so there you go my first sussex double figure cod so far this year, craig
sorry about the pics,no camera man last night(andy lightweight)and ive only had three hours kip
