Hi guys, just back after spending 5 nights in Rathmullan with the family. Weather was great and the fishing wasn't to bad either. First 2 days where spent fishing the pier, Mack and sand eel where the baits. Over the two days there was very little mackerel caught by anyone. We had loads of rays but none of any size. It was actually nice to get the odd dog fish just for a little variety. Jack also got a wee Dab and a Launce.

Next outing was a short 2 hour session in the evening at a rock mark 15min drive from where we stayed. This was our 1st time fishing here but hopefully wont be our last. Beautiful looking place with deep water right at your feet. We traveled light with just our spinning gear and had around 10 fish each. Mix of mackerel and pollock. Id the best fish, a 3.5lb pollock. This became our dinner, my 1st time cooking my catch. It tasted great and I was delighted with myself:BigGrin: Wife thought I was bonkers. Kept saying, how can cooking a fish make anyone so happy:rolleyess:

Our last session we cheated a little and went out on the charter boat. It turned out to be one of the best experiences of our short fishing lives. Id said to the skipper when making the booking we wanted to go out for the Tope. Trip ended up split in two to suit everyone on board. 1st half of the trip we stocked up on mackerel and fished over a few wrecks. Loads of fish caught and great fun. We ended up with 18 different species of fish. The skipper said it was his best day out in 3 years. The 2nd half of the day we went for the Tope. I ended up with two Spur Dog around the 15lb mark. Jack ended up with a 40lb Tope. Amazing time had by all aboard. I brought home a couple of Cod and that was dinner sorted:smile2: All in all a holiday ill never forget, the look on jacks face when he had that Tope on was priceless.

Thanks guys.

@Swilsonstu ive stayed down rathmullan twice now and both times booked through this guy http://www.rathmullancottages.com/index.php
Its a bit expensive at peak season but what i did was join the mailing list. By doing this ive got both holidays a lot cheaper taking last minute cancellations. The houses and cottages are massive and have everything you could need. They are 5mins walk from the peir.

I believe its 400euro if you want a group booking for say you and your mates and no one else.
