i brought a 7ht mag, and when i cast it sounds noisy compaired to a normal 7ht, i have the break system on zero, and the bit on the side allows the spool to run freely but it does not seem to cast as far as the normal 7ht, is it worth selling and going for another make ? or is it faulty, does yours make a noise ?/

any advice would be great,

I`ll takje it off your hands for ÂŁ50? Did you buy it new, if not clean the bearings out as they do slow down.

My dad has a pair of these and he is very unimpressed.

He reckons they are slow no matter what you do and cost him much distance.

Not naming names due to a conflict of interest but someone who works at Daiwa on the tech side told me not to waste my money when I asked him about this reel.

I think I can honestly say this is the first time I've read a complaint about these reels anywhere. I know loads of guys who have them and love them dearly. I suggest asking someone who has a bit of experience with multis to take a quick look at it for you, could be something very simple causing the noise. Is there enough play in the spool?

Strange!... the only niggle I had with mine is that they fill em with grease which stops the reel clicking back into gear, but a clean up sorts the problem.

They aren't as fast as some reels on the market, but can still achieve 200 yards out of the box which is more then enough for fishing.

I have also heard people moaning about the drag not locking tight enough... Mine are great and there is nout with the drag system, is 100 times better then any abu Ive ever used, inc sports mags, elites, premiums and the chrome rocket which is absolute pants BTW!

They are superb fishing reels, virtually idiot proof and super smooth.

From the box mine were a tad too slow, so I had to clean the bearings and add just a drop of red rocket fuel and usually run the mags on around 1-4 depending on how windy it is.

Had one since they first came out, best fishing reel I have ever owned.

Currently using it on the tournament field, no modifications just loaded with .31mm Sakuma, mags set on 4, hit 202m (221 yards in old money) at my last tourney and reckon there is more to come when I get my technique sorted. To put that in perspective I borrowed an England international casters reel for a try and I got no noticible improvement - that tells me it is my technique not the reel that is holding me back at the moment (though I acknowledge that will change as my technique improves).

Also own 6500's (original green mag elite and blue sports mag) and a standard 7HT, no question the 7HT mag is the first reel out of the box for me fishing or chucking at the moment.

i might go to a casting club to see what im hitting, maybe i expected to empty the reel every cast, next time i go fishing ill hunt out another 7ht mag user and get him/ her to blast my weight out, just to see if its the same... two side by side would be better than a few texts on here i guess

I just cast on the field at the side of the local golf range! it gives me a rough idea of how far i am casting:laugh:

There might be a dodgy batch out there, different bearings/gearing supplier or sumfink, especially if it's only the 7ht mag which is affected.

Not much fun to buy a brand new bit of "good quality kit" and be instantly disappointed by it.

I would focus on pinpointing and reducing the noise which is wasted energy and a cast killer.

To start with try easy relaxed distance casts and see if it whispers happily.
different weights of spool/line and linefill are affected by different casting weights and casting techniques.
Your ears can tell you a lot, a quiet reel that whispers on the cast is a perfectly balanced reel.

My recent Abus were a bit noisy because they aren't lubricating them like they used to, and the new ones really should not be used straight out of the box.

I was very surprised to read that you are having problems with this reel. I have a pair, and while I wouldn't say they cast further than an ABU, IMO they are much smoother to use. With the mag brake set to zero, they normally run so fast that it is hard to control them. Most people I know that use them keep the mag set no lower than 2.5, less than that and it gets very fluffy. Sounds to me like you may have a technical problem, maybe you should have a word with Daiwa, apparently they are very approachable.

Just re-read the original post. On the subject of noise, one of mine started making a row recently - I discovered that one of the knurled screws in the right-hand end plate had come loose. They need tightening down firmly after taking the reel apart, more so than was the case with my ABUs. Just a thought.

Clive give John French a call, he is on here now as OLD CROC2 I believe, very good casting instructor and he will sort you out (Leading arm!) very quickly.

Depending on where you are in the county Kent Sportscast run regular practice sessions I think at Rough Common, pm Steve Lewis on here for details, he again is a top caster and will be able to give you the detail of when and where they are practicing.

As for emptying the reel, I've got mine "pig-loaded" with .31mm and I'm not much more than half way down the spool on a good cast. Still well over 200yds though:showoff:

taken the reel apart put tiny bit of oil in the bearings, noise seems to have muffeled, went casting sunday, proper blasting it out with everything i had, its is going some distance, im starting to think the noise is the spool going so fast, it must be turning 100+ turns per second

It wont just be the speed, Its amazing just how fast the spool actually spins... The mags dont kick in untill the spool reaches 35000! RPM.

Sounds like it is just un-balenced and or not centered properly, mine run very quietly.

I've got one that's now running very loud. It squeals as the cast accelerates and the spool seems to bind slightly on the retrieve if there is more than minimal load on the line. I shall try swapping spools and bearings over as soon as I get a chance to get down to the beach, but it is a little disappointing after only three months of use.

I was seriously impressed when I first tried these reels. At the moment I am less so.
