Its surprising how many people did go netting for herring years ago. The good days before courses, legislation and stupid rules. Now you have to got on a dozen courses before you can step on a commercial boatNice video mate. Coor that bring back memories when I was a lot younger. I used to go out of Southwold with some of the ole boys herringing. Loved it.
Such a shame I try every year to get a few boxes when there full of roe and milt my whole family love them I could get rid of 3 or 4 boxes but can never get hold of any, I would have thought they would be worth something as bait if nothing else? The prices at market have generally been poor the last few years, so not many people are bothering to fish for them. Also 3 boats that fished for them in my village have packed in. The rules and regs are getting silly, low prices and increased costs have made it to the point it’s barely worth fishing for them
Yes you’re right there bud, I still keep in touch with a couple of commercial fishermen and they have said there is a lot of hoops to jump through. Its surprising how many people did go netting for herring years ago. Yes, we do sell herringI was going to ask if you sell too. The herring that is.
Hello, it was my father on the bank holiday, I was struck down with the dreaded sickness bug. He had 4 boxes of herring I think.I enjoyed that thanks. Did you go out bank holiday Monday by any chance? I was walking my dog down the beach walked from Yarmouth north beach down to South not 1 fisherman! But I did see a boat out there will a long line of boys drifting along on the tide I wondered what they were fishing for. Thanks
Ok, I understand netting isnt for everyone, but I thought I would give people a little insight of how we catch herring. We didnt get a lot today, mainly because of the wind. The fish dont lift when there is a good breeze, but stay near the bottom.
