Hey Ho! Looks like I've done it again!
Two years ago, I caught a kinda bigg-ish Tompot Blenny (Maybe 3 to 4oz?). Took pics, measured it, didn't know what it was - went home. Checked Scottish Record - 2oz 12 dr! "I won't make that mistake again" says I..........................
Yesterday morning, about 6.30am, arose from sleeping in the car at Terally Bay and chucked a line in with some mackeral strip. Caught this. I thought it was a wee lumpsucker? Kept it alive, measured, photographed. Weight around 4oz - scales not too accurate at that weight, so I added two 6oz weights to the bag - total 16oz. Removed the fish - weight = 12oz. Showed it too a few of the lads and then released it at Drummore.
According to two people on the "General" forum, it's a Shanny Blenny (Lipophrys Pholis). Scottish record = 1oz 10dr - about a third of the weight of mine!!!! D'OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH! Record stood since 1983.
Can any scots confirm it as a shanny? I believe they are more common here than down saaarfff? Mr Holt? dab hand?
