The search facility is excellent but I, for one, find it difficult to access the information I want.

The point of posting, and I presume WSF as a whole, is to get bang up to date information on fishing, tackle etc. This is why the same questions appear repeatedly. Both tackle and how a particular area is fishingcan change dramatically in a short period of time, as my bank statement clearly shows!!! (tackle tart).

I have noticed that one or two on here are sometimes blunt and rude to other posters, indeed they have been to me (I personally found this very upsetting). I feel that this is totally unacceptable. As my grandad used to say - ' if you aint got nothing nice to say...shut up!!'

It is important to remember that we DO NOT have to reply to all posts and that the reason people ask questions is that they do not know the answer.

ONLY STUPID PEOPLE DON'T ASK QUESTIONS!!! (Grandad again....)

How many times has the same question got to be asked before it gets ignored though? I've seen 3 posts on the same page asking for the exact same information on one area where people were going on holiday. One subsequently got rather snotty as they didn't get a reply and classed the locals as unhelpful etc.

A look at other posts will give you an idea of what gear to take, what baits to try etc. You can then be more selective in your question and get more information as a result. That is why there is a search facility on here and thats why Mods allow such replies. It's amazing what you can find by just looking.

i always use the search on google and on wsf before i sent a post, unless it is a general questionsas in what rods are light to use as i have arthritis...that was a question i posted

however as for the how many times do you have to answer the same question...well every time i think as each person is individual to what they take from a reply....and the reply may need be different as even though its the same question./...each person maybe lookign for the same answer but written in a different way.

i agree with the where are the good lug worm rag worm beds...no one wants give that away...but there is no need be snotty about it just dont reply.....like thank all the members that have or will have replied to this post....it shows only the minority has the problem with people asking questions lol i have looked at this site many times beforei joined....wish i joined years ago...it really is top class and thank you to all that has tooken the time to reply to my past post and future post...( expect alot )....now where are the good lug worm beds lol JOKE

My take on asking questions again that have already been answered is that since the archived replies somebody else may have joined the forum who can shed more light on the subject. There are only so many topics to discuss so if we took the view that people should only glean info from the existing mass of useful information here few if any new suggestions would turn up. No new experiences would be related; we wouldn't be kept up to date with the new additions to Rons rubber wear wardrobe and it would get pretty dull around here.

Make no mistake running and maintaining a flourishing forum isn't a haphazard business; encouraging new members while retaining the existing ones requires proper moderation and a good balance of friendly banter versus serious information exchange. I've been on the wrong end of a badly moderated forum and believe me it's not fun at all!

I'll take my hat off once again to those who run, fund and moderate this forum, it is without doubt one of the best on the internet.

Well said. :victory::victory:

Stick around for a few years and I'm sure you'll get to recognise the posts that appear each year at the same time:

'I'm on holiday in ......... for a week. What will I catch, where do I get bait and what rods should I bring.'

Less than a week later the same post will appear again and again and again. Do a bit of site research and the post becomes:

'I'm planning on fishing ........ area for a week, targetting ....... If anyone could point me towards a few other places in the area I could target ...... I'd be grateful.'

I wonder which one will get the best response?

well said lilbrit

and yes i understand snaggle tooth

as it is on the whole it is a great site andi enjoy the forums very much...i have learned a lot already from you guys.....got more out than i have put in but am sure in time that will change

keep up the work wsf and members

I never have anything useful to contribute to people asking questions, but I like to be friendly, cos... well, it's friendly. I usually ask my Magic Dragon or some of the other guys I'm getting know to help me understand stuff, but I'm sure they get tired of me asking thickie-twonk things all the time, so I like to ask the open forum sometimes. I get into such a tangle with the search button, you see. I don't always know I'm looking at the answer I want, as I don't always know enough to realise it. Thick, but true.

And I have SUCH a laugh on here, so I'm grateful to the friendly lot.

And as for the doorhandles, well, makes us look better, don't it? Bless 'em - they must have such a lot to compensate for...

I shall keep on posting as I always have, in the hopes it raises as many smiles as I get from you guys (at least until the Mods chuck me off, anyway!).

Love Pants :wiggle:

For all you guys who don't use it may I gently suggest that you take the time to learn to use it as well as read back a few hundred hours of threads .

It /they could indeed give your necktop computer a couple of gigabytes of info that won't always be presented to you by people replying to a post and as it is past history so to speak , you can ignore the uppity snotty comments to your hearts desire without having to type a single word of angst.

I took the decision ( one of many topics researched) to look up worm baits /types and usage , then slowly but surely started out on how to get , where to get and then developed a few ways of storage suitable to my needs & inclinations. Happened to have caught a few fish doing it as well.

This has taken me several days worth of reading etc but now I have a much clearer understanding of the whole shebang. It wouldn't have come out of a few replys to a single posting I had made.

a lot of good points here but the one main point i think that has been missed is that this is a sociable forum and it is away for new guys like me to get to know you guys...i have already met a few that are very sound guys.....if a thread comes up fior the millionth time maybe we should humour it with an answer even if it just to say hi

It is the new guys that will keep WSF going but if they will not post a question because they do not want to be ridiculed or have replies that are bad mannered aimed at them they will just read the posts and sit in the back ground you have only to look at how many people are associated with WSF and how many post ?:rtfm:

You'll find your way about people. I recently left a thread and got a reply on the lines of "What's the point of this thread, isn't it obvious". Might be obvious to some, but if it was obvious to everyone then I wouldn't have left the thread. You'll learn to ignore the offencive posts an just read the ones worth reading. Does get on your t*ts sometimes though. Another thing that annoys me is, I've got my way of fishing and others have got they're's. With some people, if your way isn't the same as they're's then they'll try and make out you don't know what your talking about.

With people like that I just ask myself what's the point of them being in a forum if they already know it all.

Is that the right way to write they're's?

Welcome stevie. We are not all old grumpies. Please continue to post as the majority of members are only to keen to help newbies even if the question has ben asked many times before.
Only stupid people dont ask questions remember. :sun:

Note to old-timers - you dont HAVE to respond.

Only had time to read pages 1 & 2 just now as we have an internet connection problem here at work.

But.........

.........Another angle to it - My home patch (the one I fish the most) is Loch Etive. Every question that can be asked about the place is already on here and can be easily found.

But how many times am I expected to sit and type in the same information to the same question, or do the search myself and post the results before somebody takes the huff? 5? 10? 50?

So before giving those of us who do post answers a hard time, maybe do a wee bit of homework first chaps? If you post and say "I've had a look but can't seem to find" etc - then fair enough, ask away? I've done that myself.
