I wonder if anyone can help with some of the Abbreviations that are found on charts. I refer specifically to items like

fS.Sh
fS.mS.Sh
fs.BK.Sh
G.cS.mS.Sh

I assume that they refer to the seabed type.... but I reckon it's not always good to "assume"

Yes they do.
I think I am correct in thinking the following but I am sure somebody will put me right if not:
fS - Fine Sand
Sh - Shingle
mS - Medium Sand
cS - Coarse Sand
G - Gravel

fS.mS.Sh......................fine sand. medium sand. shell
fs.BK.Sh..............fine sand. (bk is broken but not in capitals). shell
G.cS.mS.Sh................gravel. coarse sand. medium sand. shell

Admiralty chart 5011 contains an explanation of every abbreviation and symbol used on an Admiralty chart

I was not too far out then. Did a google search but no luck.:)
