I have just purchased a Icom M421 dsc/vhf radio and would like to connect it to my Garmin 152 gps, I thought it would be just a case of connecting the out (brown I think) of the gps to the in on the vhf but, the vhf has a inner and outer core wire a bit like a mini coax version so I am not sure how to do it. If anyone has done this or can help please let me know. Many Thanks.

Pin 3 Blue is the out NMEA signal on the Garmin, Pin 4 brown is NMEA in and is the wrong one, connect it to the centre core of the coax on the radio. The radio should have a plug on the end of the coax, guess someone chopped it.

The outer braid on the coax should be connected to the black wire on the Garmin and to battery negative, ie a 3 way connection.

Also you need to set the Garmin to NMEA out / NMEA in or it will try to speak in Garminese and the radio will not understand.
