Sorry about the jery video, but here is another one of me at Walton last night chucking a whole mackerel fillet in a standard DVice with DD Grip Wires.

It goes left - helped by a quite breezy SW wind, but you get the idea.

Gear Used :

Conoflex Nemesis SLR Standard (5-6oz)

Penn 525 Mag Xtra
4 magnets
20W50 Motor Oil
Magnets set to half

15lb 0.35 ultima Distance Main Line
80lb 0.75 Sufix Surf sockleader.

SW wind at about 20mph coming in from the right of where I am standing.

do those d vices work then? do they fly out pretty far

In the clip I posted, I have a whole mackerel fillet which is simply hooked in the top and rammed in the DVice tube - no elastic, just stuffed in. You can do this with any bait and its brilliant for whole squid and head hooked rag - or anything else for that matter.

As it is more streamlined for the cast as the bait is in the tube (or hanging out the top in my case as it was a huge fillet) it goes a lot further than a standard clipped down rig.

If I was using the DVB (the DVice Breakout) I would have probably added another 20 yards on the cast - they really are that good.

If you see Mark (South) casting - there is actually not much difference between the cast on the field and what would happen off the beach.

..... and while we are on the subject, here is one of Concrete casting a mackerel fillet. It wouldn't fit in the tube properly, so it was folded in half and stuffed in.

they certainly work in the right situations. at our casting club we have had casts over 200 yards with a whole squid using one and they allow you to use really long hook lengths

expensive to lose though. you need to be a bit selective of where you use them

this video is only 180 yards though

The stretch of beach we were fishing is one of the roughest pieces of ground around our parts, but we fish it with DVices and DVBs as they plane up quickly on the retrieve.

I haven't lost any gear there in 3 trips.

If I was using normal gear I would have left alot of it behind.
