A wee change of scenery today by moving round the Solway coast a bit. Glorious weather, lots of sunshine although mate Big Tam and I did not see much of it as there were high trees behind us, leaving us in the shade. Lots of activity on the water today, canoists, jet skiers, water ski fans, yachts, ribs and quite a few small craft with anglers no doubt after the bass. Started fishing at 2 pm. as the tide began to run. Tam got the first fish, a nice plump flounder of 16" head to tail. Next fish also to Tam, a big flounder which zig zagged thru the water like a bass.

As soon as it was lifted from the water it was evident that it was a cracker. Fishing Fishing rod Casting (fishing) Outdoor recreation Recreational fishing
Estimated the weight at two and a half pound, and on the scales it weighed 2 lb. 7 oz.

Trumpetfish
We called it a day at 5 pm. Tam with five flounder, lightest 1lb. 4 oz, I had six, lightest 1 lb. 3 oz. and heaviest 1 lb. 12 oz. Must repeat this excercise soon to see if I can get a 2 pounder. But tomorrow afternoon firstly a short session to try and increase my plaice tally.

That can be arranged mate! I did not intend Tam to get the big one, the silly fish must have swam right past my bait to get to his. lol.

Good report but bet it was a bit of a hike round to there!

Thought there weren't that many decent flounders over this neck of the woods!?!

Take it they were all on lug?

1 Aye long walk, especially with a limp. lol.
2 Plenty of flounder when conditions are good. Not a great lot where I fished today, Carsethorn ten times better for numbers.
3 All taken on crab, albeit mostly poor quality crinklies.

Grant and myself fished Carsethorn today and it was dire, with the weather, as it was,I expected at least a couple of good plaice or at least a schoolie bass, not to be,one knock the whole day,a flounder of a pound and a half,at low water then ziltz, well thats fishing I suppose.

Anyway Jack dropped you of a few worms, save you a wee bit of digging tommorrow

Thanks for the worms Jim, sorry to hear things were so bad. I intend to try tomorrow for plaice with lug as bait, fishing from low until mid- tide.
One thing about fishing, It is a funny old game. How often on a boat is everyone catching mackerel bar one. Shouts of " On the bottom, On the top, Half way down" never seem to help. Same on the shore, take the kids who cast ten yards, and you throw the best bait out almost a hundred, and the kids whip you. Remember the day young Grant out with us, got a good bass and a smashing big flounder on his first outing. That's fishing!
