Given the forecast I very much doubt you will get on Roker pier this weekend, sea is looking like it's going to get away from the north

So what am I looking at ? What wind direction makes it rough for them to shut the gates ?
What state of tides is the norm 2 up 2 down ? Is there anywhere I should avoid ?

Thanks
Brew

From start of the pier to roughly half way is heavy ground sea side, and kelp harbour side. There's a little post sticking up on the sea side known as the barrier, this is opposite the first set of steps. Good fish are taken here during the winter, but be prepared to loose plenty leads. Fishing up to the second/last set of steps is mixed ground IMO it's a hit and missy u get your snaggy days then you don't. End of the pier where the lighthouse is, is clean sand right round it. Pier usually gets shut with any kind of sea on. Hope this helps a wee bit. Beware of the bog monster.
