Went out on Sun just for a couple of hours, anchored a couple of miles out but nothing but little tings, annoying so then drifted between the piers for a while with spoons and many beads. Two nice plaice even though the water not clear at all. Nice to get out for first time this year and at least catch something to eat. Hopefully April will see some nice flatties around!

Glad to see some plaice around what sort of size were they ?... My boat went back in the water yesterday after its annual overhaul and i cant wait for my first plaice session , weather depending .
Did you get hold of the outboard engineer ok?

There should be plaice around all the usual areas by now Kev. I guess we will just have to wait for the muck to clear out and it will be game on.

There are some very nice Plaice out there, little difficult Sunday with Tide ripping through at 1.2 to 1.5 knots but around slack proved rather fruitful, big thick chunky ones too for the time of Year, reckon could see a new pb plaice easily this year, if you can take advantage of the evenings into Dusk theres some Monster Sole about too:wiggle:

Monster sole....now we are talking. I do have a soft spot for a sole or two. nothing quite like a big old doormat in the net to put a smile on my face.

I had plenty of plaice last year, but nothing over 3lb odd,so the bigger ones managed to avoid me. This year i will be looking elsewhere for quality rather than quantity.

Sole.......... ! now you are talking and i am getting excited what bait / rigs do you use ? what type of ground and drift or anchor ?..... the battle of the inshore ground cod maybe over but the plaice / sole battle is about to begin !

Hi tony

I owe you big time .....Phil is a top bloke indeed . He now works through southern shipwrights . The Service worked out £100 cheaper than two other qoutes even though all the parts which were fully listed out with the qoute were genuine quicksilver ......I also got a full engine usage print out (its only done 250 hours in 7-8 years !) with overall RPM useage and a full report on the engine with no obligation reccomendations which were fully priced should i want them done .

I decided to get the cam belt replaced as it was a bit loose and they supplied a new fuel line bulb pump ( the rubber thing you squeeze) and a water /fuel water seperator as the previous one was a diesel filter (how did that happen ?). Also the trim gauge which has never worked is due to the fact the bit that makes it works is missing from my engine (which was a new engine GRRRRR !) ...certainly makes you think ! ...So all in all I am happy with the expertese , service and priceing .... I will definately go to Phil if i go for a new engine and serviceing is now well and truly sorted ...Thanks again i owe you a pint !! ...(of prawns, cooked or live ! ? )

Now sole ! ...you got any ideas where they might be hanging out ?????....im going to be doing some dusk sessions after work just got to find them ! ...amongst the pesky pins and plaice !

Glad to hear Phil sorted the engine out for you. He knows his way round an outboard for sure and he won't rip you off.
As for the sole,I've had a few off the arm when conditions are right so I guess its a case of finding a bit of sand and mud mix. I've never caught one on the drift,so I imagine anchoring would be the best option, close inshore with tiny hooks and small worm baits on a settled evening tide. The inshore netting guys get their share so maybe a clue to where to try.
