Ok arrived here about 3-4 hours before high tide which was midnight.

Target was rays bait was blueys sandeel squid

Nice evening flat calm well slight breeze on the water.

Few others down there too that had been fishing before I got there.

Well nothing was knocking at my bait but guys to the right of me was into whiting and guy left of me was into the dogs and two rays :(

I thought I must be in with a shout so I waited then bang on 11pm hour before high tide Raymond appeared YES target achieved.

Dead sure it's a thorny well stabbed me in the hand when releasing the sod but all in all there was 5-6 rays caught from everyone and dogs and whiting.

Tight lines...

Thats a nice small eyed mate not a thorny, brilliant catch.

Most Rays still have thorns on them.

We have about 20 species of Ray in our waters I would say but take a look here for future reference:

The Shark Trust - Skate & Ray ID Guides (Click the PDF on the Ray of your choice and find out facts about them and how to distinguish a Ray)

Do note though, that rays always have slightly different markings from what I have seen, typically the male and females...

Hope this helps mate.

Ok thanks Diawa Dave for the info I just wasn't sure but I will keep the species info to hand thanks.

As for snags I found using a grip weight was hassle seemed to bed in too much that felt like a snag so didn't use them in the end didn't need to but didn't loose no tackle so nothing really.

Didn't get to weigh it forgot my scales what would you guys say it was it weight from pics 4lb ?
