Take a walk to the beach - at dead low water. That gives you the chance to explore the ground you will fish over when the tide comes in.......and WATCH, exactly the same as you would if you were fishing a lake or river - you look at what the fish are doing then, just do the same. OBSERVATION will tell you an aweful lot.
The sea is a big river when the tide is running - the fish will do similar things to river fish. They will hang in the flow and watch for food being sent to them by the current. OR they will use the tide to provide them the means to hunt new areas - as sand/stones/rocks/weed gets covered, so the fish move in to hunt out what is lurking beneath. So your first observations should be for current lines and "structure" - these are the two fundamental requirements of any mark and what will attract fish to them. The outflow of a stream or river is always a good place to look too.
