Take a walk to the beach - at dead low water. That gives you the chance to explore the ground you will fish over when the tide comes in.......and WATCH, exactly the same as you would if you were fishing a lake or river - you look at what the fish are doing then, just do the same. OBSERVATION will tell you an aweful lot.

The sea is a big river when the tide is running - the fish will do similar things to river fish. They will hang in the flow and watch for food being sent to them by the current. OR they will use the tide to provide them the means to hunt new areas - as sand/stones/rocks/weed gets covered, so the fish move in to hunt out what is lurking beneath. So your first observations should be for current lines and "structure" - these are the two fundamental requirements of any mark and what will attract fish to them. The outflow of a stream or river is always a good place to look too.

Bass fishing is pretty limited around here mate. Prestwick beach has a gully 10ft out along most of it which you could stand on the sandbank at high tide and fish into. However I've only heard of 2 bass being caught around here last year and they usually show up around May/June depending on temperature.

I've never seen anyone fishing ayr beach because of tourists and dog walkers,Troon ardrossan,Saltcoats, dunure and surrounding areas are all quite rocky so I doubt that would be much use.
Everyone I know hunts for bass in Luce bay and surrounding area.
Hope this helps!
