i've got an original john holden beach buddy, had it 12 years.one time i never secured it down properly and it went for a swim at hythe beach!got it out and the only damage was to the aluminium peice the legs all fit it to.got a new plastic one off john holden's for free.every year i waterproof it with fabseal and it's still in very good nick.

a mate of mine has the ron thompson one and i must admit i was impressed with it.dunno how it would compare to mine though if it ended up in the water like mine did!.....dave.

I have got one of the John Holden ones, I can never be arsed to carry it to the beach, great bit of kit but it sits in the shed most of the time.
However it is realy easy to deploy in even the worst winds, and when i do bother to take it I am always glad I did.

Well i will get one of those Aldi ones for £8 just to see what it is like. If its crap then theres nothing lost. Personally for comfort reasons i prefer to fish out of the back of my car if i can.
Dont do it....!! what you will have lost is eight quid. Thats nearly two packets of cigarettes and I would rather have the cigarettes. The Aldi ones I have watched with much mirth fold flat to the ground in anything over a force 2.....!!

I have just had a mild erection problem.

I have just received my new Ron Thompson Shelter and spent 10 minutes trying to put it up in the garden, in the dark having just got back from the pub. Critical Boss has now christened me a sad *******, due to the time it took me to get it up.

Getting it down again and into its condom was even harder. Result Boss has been rolling on the floor with laughter whilst I have have come close to a serious sense of humour loss.

Finally managed it, but feel there must be a market for erection instructors. :D :D

I must admit, it is very light and I am looking forward to using it in anger.

The Lidl one will do a job, providing you don't expect it to be gale-proof. I had one for two years with no problems. I even managed to flog it at a car boot for a tenner :)

I don't know about the Holden one, but the RT seems pretty light, appears to be about the weight of two beachcasters in their bags and a tripod combined.
