Hi all.
We are looking for some good fishing points to be fished from south west scotland with some place to pitch a couple of tents (free). we've fished a few places over the last few years all ways the same time bank holiday August. we've done alot of fishing up the west coast with not alot of fish to be caught.....We are trying to find something a little more southern as we are coming from Newcastle. can anyone point us in the right direction? a bit grass to pitch and some fish to be caught we don't need mod cons. just peace and fish.

ah mate when we lived in shields we used to travel over to the Mull of Galloway, just me and the wife, you can pitch a very small two man tent down the side of east tarbet or on the beach near there, when approaching the lighthouse on the left hand side is small wall where people park head on over towards the line of telegraph poles and follow the small paths down to the edge of the sea, you can fish for mackeral before it gets dark and then use that mackeral for loads of dogfish , and of course the big ole conger eel, wish i had the time to travel up now but livig in norfolk its over ten hours away for us, just do a google search for mull of galloway and look out for the areas to fish on it

regards
Dene

For what its worth, how about Ardentinny Bay on Loch Long. Not far from Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula. Good beach, rock and pier fishing (Blairmore)? Forestry Commission car park, but adequate grass for tents; commission seem to be ok with this as long as not anti-social.

I am assuming you are intending to camp next year once the weather warms up..... say June onwards?

If you want to fish and camp with all the home comforts why not try Portwilliam (Machars Peninsular on the east side of Luce bay).

Camping at The Kings Green, run by the community council with all mod cons - toilets showers, washing facilties.

Fishing - Its just a stroll down South Street, a couple of hundred yards to Portwilliam Harbour. Off the harbour wall you'll get doggies galore, pollack, flounders, the occasional bass and if you fish for them, grey mullet. It fishes about 2 to 21/2 hours each side of high water. Night or late eveing tides are best.

Nice easy fishing, they have even provided a convenient rail to rest your rod on, and a street light so you can see what you are doing.

You can buy frozen bait and any terminal tackle you need from the hardware shop right next to the harbour or if you prefer fresh bait you can go up to Monreith beach a couple of miles away and dig some blow lug.

Finally, you can buy a nice supper for six or seven quid, washed down with a pint at the Monreith Arms Hotel, again right next to the harbour.
