Best way to send 2 rods by post/courier/deliverer

I need to send a couple of rods in the post. There's a chance that they could be going to Europe but I guess they'll probably be sent by domestic post or courier.

The package is 6-foot long and a tube of about 6 inches in diameter. It weighs 3.5kg. It's going to be well protected as it's a very very stiff cardboard tube which I will also be bubble-wrapping the crap out of.

My question is, what's the best way to send it? I need to get a signature so it's going to be Royal Mail's recorded or special delivery if domestic. If it goes to Europe, Royal Mail's quite pricey so I was wondering if anyone knows of the best way to post them.

By 'best', of course I mean cheapest, but with a signature - yeah yeah, bit of a cheapskate.

Thanks,

Harley.

:victory: (Peace out).

Yeah, bit worried about that now actually. Their UK prices are great but it's quoting ÂŁ50 to send it to Germany?! Seems a lot for a 3.5kg parcel, no matter how long it is.

Yeah the later one's coming in at ÂŁ35 (with the VAT added). Still seems a lot but it's the best yet. Thanks man.

It's the volumetric pricing that pushes it up.:showoff:

Don't forget to insure it :eek:hmy: as the standard rates might not cover it.

Just sent a parcel to the Slovak Republic (195cm x 18cm tube) insured for ÂŁ1000 - 72hrs door to door using wedelivertheworld for ÂŁ56 :victory:

I suppose we are sending pretty big stuff into different countries. It's on fleatray that I'm selling the rods anyway so I'll have to leave it with the buyer to select what he/she wants.

why dont you just do the sensible thing and check the price to ship into other countrys before you stick the ad up?
Well, being the inexperienced seller that I am (er, that's sarcasm if you didn't know) I actually stipulated that I would not send internationally due to countless problems with items in the past. I've been contacted by someone that's bought from me before, multiple times, though so I'm making the exception.

Thanks for your advice though (more of that stuff like above by the way). :kissing:

No matter how you try to advise non-UK bidders that they should request a quote before bidding, you'll still get some numpty who doesn't bother reading that bit.

I recently sold a Bullworker to Puerto Rico and the shipping cost came out at ÂŁ42

You're right.

It appears, to you perhaps at least, that I should have known better doesn't it?

Thank you for all the other mere mortals for their valuable input. I shall not waste your time again in the future.

interparcel.co.uk were good.

I ordered them to be collected today. I was on the net last night and they sorted it out and now they're off. Cost about ÂŁ15 but they're fully insured as well. Not bad seeing I only booked it last night hey?

I'll be using them again I think. They're an agent for loads of people from what I can gather, it was UPS that's going to be doing the delivering so I know they'll be ok.

From what I can remember you can only use them if you have an account for long items, is that correct?
I didn't have any problems mate. I was sure to give them the exact measurements (4kg, 180x15x15cm) as well as I didn't want the guy to be stood on the doorstep saying "I'm afraid we don't take items of this size".

I was expecting it to be a lot more hassle. The only hassle, of course, is waiting around all day for the dude to arrive.

Speak nicely to a large tackle dealer who might sell you a couple of the tubes they use to send rods to their customers. Had a cracker sent to me today going to cut some holes in it, buckle up the ends and use it for carrying a few rods at a time to marks. Got another rod coming next few weeks which will leave me with spare one if you still need it.

Yeah good plan. I'm thinking of bodging some plastic tubing together and making myself a roof rack rod holder. Commercial drain pipe, double-sided sticky tape, some scissors, pipe cleaner and a whole lot of attention to detail should see me through it.

Maybe I can get it on the Gallery and Tony Hart can talk about it a bit.

He's dead now isn't he? It's a little late, sorry.
