This might be a bit off topic but I've never caught a bass and wondered if you could add a comment to this tale.
I was fishing Shell Bay the other night,in fact I suppose strictly speaking Largo bay as I was on the west side of the point out from the Cockle Mill burn, having a go for flounders.I put 10lb line on,with a 50lb leader to get out a bit.
The sea was pretty choppy and I had caught a couple of mackerel on lug and macky strip on a 2 hook flapper, when I added a red surf popper to the bottom of the rig for the next cast as the ground was so clear. When the rod whopped over with a great take,I assumed it was another mackerel, but when I heaved into it though,it was something a good bit bigger.I got a helluva scrap out of it as I was about 150yards out.I got it back to about 20 yards out when it fanned up in the rocks and weed. After a bit pulling,a bit leaving slack etc for a while, the line snapped at the leader knot and that was that.
Might it possibly have been a bass?
