I would suggest bigger baits but with bass this doesn't usually make a difference. I'm aware that school bass will normally vacate an area if larger bass are hunting. I believe things normally go quiet for a while before the big boys bite.

Is it a Fife mark you are fishing (if you don't mind me asking)? Where I fish it's a case of schoolies only. I did get one to about 3lb but not seen anything bigger.

Good luck anyway.

What are the tides like tonight? You're best trying at low water. This is between 6-8pm if you're going where I think you are. At night the fishing might well be good at other tide states - sounds like a good plan.

Tight lines - let me know how you get on.

This might be a bit off topic but I've never caught a bass and wondered if you could add a comment to this tale.

I was fishing Shell Bay the other night,in fact I suppose strictly speaking Largo bay as I was on the west side of the point out from the Cockle Mill burn, having a go for flounders.I put 10lb line on,with a 50lb leader to get out a bit.

The sea was pretty choppy and I had caught a couple of mackerel on lug and macky strip on a 2 hook flapper, when I added a red surf popper to the bottom of the rig for the next cast as the ground was so clear. When the rod whopped over with a great take,I assumed it was another mackerel, but when I heaved into it though,it was something a good bit bigger.I got a helluva scrap out of it as I was about 150yards out.I got it back to about 20 yards out when it fanned up in the rocks and weed. After a bit pulling,a bit leaving slack etc for a while, the line snapped at the leader knot and that was that.

Might it possibly have been a bass?

Marcus try fishing two rods - put a bloody big bait on one and worm on the other. Mackeral head and guts is good or a number of peeler crab whipped on - if you look at the size of a bass' mouth you can see that they won't be put off by sizable baits.

lol that would have been funny blenny,as it was i thought someone was playing funny buggers, as a couple of times i would here a splash and see the water moving and thought is that fish or is someone throwing rocks in. to the fishing ,it was **** not a single bite on ether rod and the worst thing was there were guys round me catching fish .lug and mackie used for bait but i dont think it was just the bait this time as there was a guy using lug 10 feet away and he was catching fish ,oh bugger back to the drawing board.good idea bleeny about the badge or a patch or something ,it would be nice to meet a few of you guys and put a face to a name. :) :)

Rough deal.

Were the fish being caught any good or just schoolies? Worth the try on the night fishing front though. How many anglers were there - I would have thought it would be quiet there?

Did you have to cross a rail line (just to be sure you were where I thought you were).

Were they taking them home? Seems a little small to even get a meal out of. I put all mine back that are under a foot in length. That's the reason i've only taken one home!

Wouldn't mind trying a decent bass beach/mark elsewhere. If anyone knows of one please let me know (if you're ok with that).

Cheers

Hi all, When I fish for Bass I usually spin with a 28gram Abu krill and I have had a few Bass over 4lb. I also use fish baits on a pulley rig with a bait clip for distance. My favourite type of fishing for Bass is with the fly rod although I have only caught School Bass on the fly its still great sport.
