blob knot on 60lbs mono or tapered leader.

When using a shock leader I have been advised a blob knot which is essence a light flame heated 60lbs mono with your main line whipped to it in the same way a spade end hook is tied is just as good as using a more expensive tapered shock leader.
anyone used this method.
I have just tried the knot it appears safe enough and the light bulbous melted end would slip through the rings no problem.
tight lines
