hi,

i normally frequent the scottish forum but have came on here to ask if anyone knows any small boat friendly caravan parks in the N.devon area within easy drive of a good slipway and good fishing for tope, bass etc...

oh yes, and it needs to have bingo on in the club everynight to keep "you know who" happy!!!

thanks in advance

watermouth harbour has nothing to do with the holiday camp(thank god).you turn into the same road but thats it.and theres no bingo..lol .there is no slipway as such but launching is easy if you have a 4x4.just remember the tides here are insane.we had a 10.3m tide last week.the further up the channel the bigger it gets.so be carefull.the tope fishing is in deep water many miles out so i wouldnt advise it in a small boat.dont mean t put you of but this part of the coast needs caution:)

ps,,camp sites etc charge for the space.so they will love to see you with a boat in tow..

your right about the slipway wilks its only useable at high tide on a big tide I used to launch my wilson flyer at the low watermark with an escort van float it out as far as possible and yank the trailer out with a long rope it is also hard going pushing the trailer out to float it off there always seems to be a rock to catch under the wheels tis hard work all round but possible also in the tides around this area haddie it is nearly impossible to hand haul an anchor if the tide is running but it is one hell of a beautifull area and well worth the trip dispite the lack of launching areas the best in the area has to be appledore nice and wide and car parks near by again though the tides are mental its ok at ht but three hours before theoreticly you can slip or load your boats but the tide is running at 6kts if you need any info haddie pm me.

Stowford meadows , which is about 4-5 miles from Ilfracombe appears to be Boat friendly as I have seen loads of small boats parked next to tents, also has bingo( not sure if its every night). Agree with previous posts about appledore. Never done watermouth so cannot comment. There are slipways that are hardly used at Lee bay,Barnstaple civic centre and Hele bay , however all high tide slips and are tricky for diffent reasons , I'd stick to appledore if not used to the area.

Hope that helps

Peter

hi,

thanks for the replies.

actually going to north wales, booked yesterday, couldn't find anywhere that suited us in n.devon, and it's a bit far to tow the boat, expensive too as i use a landcruiser and am lucky to get 25mpg.

so maybe another year....

again thanks for the help
