Hi guys, looking for a bit of help. I have just bought a fishing boat and been doing it up. I've come to the mercury 60hp efi 2004 outboard motor. It starts first go. Goes into neutral, forward and reverse. The problem I have is when I push the throttle right down the power isn't there at all.

Trouble solving so far.

I've changed the spark plugs, new oil and filter, new fuel filter. It will rev on the outboard if doing it by hand. All the cables are attached.

Would it still shift into forward and reverse if the cable was snapped ?
Wouldn't it have a cable for throttle and another for gear shifts???

When you say no power does it feel like a clutch slipping sort of power loss like the engine is reving but not moving? If so I had the same problem with a mariner 60hp efi it turned out to be the centre of prop they have a rubber coupling in a metal bush.
Two ways round it push the bush out press another in you can buy em of eBay not a great amount but be very careful when pressing it out as I found out to my expense as. The prop slipped and took a tip of a blade Or just buy anew prop also of eBay for £120

More info needed really. when you push the throttle forward do the revs increase with no more propulsion or do the revs stay the same. In most cases if you can't sort quickly yourself then the cheapest option is to get an outboard mechanic to look at it.

And when you bypass the throttle controls/cables the engine revs when you operate the throttle control on the engine/carb itself???

Yes I can rev it by pushing the lever on the motor.

I'm going to try and disconnect the cable one end and pull it to see if it has snapped.
Have you tried it yet???????
