Could you not say it is help towards travel costs, by road of course. :secret:

I suppose the car insurance would claim it is then hire & reward and be invalid!

Oh well free trips all round then :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

The problem arises when people ask on here for a donation towards the fuel. The commercial charter operators get the hump!...We all know it happens and I cannot see the harm but best just not to advertise it!

why would you ask a few mates out and then charge them for the Privilege?:g:
I think theres nothing wrong with chipping in for rod hire and bait:) , people who rarely get a chance to go on a boat dont mind paying a couple of quid for a few hours out at sea fishing, it wouldnt bother me. And at the end of the day if the person going out on the boat offered to give a bit of money as a good will gesture wheres the harm in that? Not saying money is set out before hand but a simple " Thanks for the trip, i would like to give you a donation for letting me borrow your rod and using your bait". :)

Well off topic (my fault as well, sorry), so lets get back to boat kit and not onto the topic of charging for a trip.

Sorry but I didn’t put it off topic, but I still don’t understand why you would need to charge your mates for a ride out in a boat. Not very friendly I think. Donations are for charities, contributions are payment, WHY? Would it not be better if you supply the bait I’ll supply the boat.

:) Some boats like mine can cost £100 in fuel for a good day out wrecking. Too much for one person to pay, so if anyone that comes out with me wants to 'hire my tackle for the day' then I am not going to complain

My mrs thinks my boat cost me £1500 - its currently more like £5000 and I've not finished it yet!

I've not finished the new on-suite I started a year ago cos I said I was skint - ooops!

I crap in a bucket on the boat so she can at home - is my take on the situation.

I didnt say that YOU took the thread off topic, read posts properly! Its up to the individual at the end of the day, i dont mind giving £10-15 pounds as a Gift (because thats all it is) to a mate, or for borrowing his rods/reels/bait etc.

I suppose if supplying the bait is one option.

You can bend the legal side of it anyway you wish with your donations, rod hire, gifts and so on as I really don’t care and good luck if you get away with it.
Again my question, why accept or expect payment from your mates for a ride on your boat? Do you charge for coffee when a mate calls round?

Not unless i have bought the most expensive columbian blue mountain, fresh water washed coffee from Whitards at £100 pounds a pop. Then i might think about it.:)

Back to the thread title....My brother in law has just bought a small boat (wooden boat about 8' long, with an old seagull engine. We sat down the other day and went through the basics of what he needs. Hes going to do some overtime now LOL.
