I experimented with this rig, as opposed to using a fluorocarbon leader.

One reason in favour of attaching braid to lure directly is that it is much softer than fluoro (for the same breaking strain), so it allows more natural movements, for instance when a weighted redgill is allowed to drop down (jigging style).

It is also a simpler rig with only one palomar knot.

The main reason against this is that it is more visible to the fish.

I have used 30 lb red tufline, connected to a swivel attached directly to the lure. Good results, some nice bass caught in daylight conditions. Cannot say if I would have caught more with fluoro, but my gut feeling is that bass does not associate the (coloured) braid with danger.

Any thoughts? Has anybody tried this?
