After completing both legs of the Mick Allen Shield, where the beach matches are fished through the night, the overall winner was Peter Costin. The venue for the matches was Orfordness on the Suffolk coast, where the last match was fished on one of the coldest night of the year so far.

Fishing through the night would have normally produced winning weights into double figures but the lack of codling meant that Peter Costin was able to claim the match with 8lb 4oz, despite protesting all night that he hadn’t got many fish! Peter’s catch included 3 whiting, 2 pout, a codling, and 7 dabs.

Barrie Senior had 5 dabs, and 5 whiting for 5lb 14.25oz, and second spot, followed by the winner of the first leg Simon King, with 2lb 8.5oz for third place.

There are seven spaces still remaining for the Gerry Armstrong Memorial Small boat match on the 28th November, the event is an open small boat match based from Felixstowe Ferry. First prize is £200 for the heaviest cod caught on the day, with £50 for the heaviest whiting. Free hot food is also available to all competitors after the match, for further details call Les Fitch after 6pm on 01376 347882
