Ventured out this morning with my brother Harris in tow for a days fishing, first stop Southerness for a couple of hours with the pushnet to gather shrimp to use for bait. Had excellent fun, catching sandeel, shrimp, pipefish, shore crabs, hermit crabs, flounder & plaice (with a few around 6" long) and a tiny grey gurnard.

Arrived at the mark near Brighouse at around 11:30 and straight in to mackeral, we had planned to fish shrimp and small hardbacks under the float but ended up using mackeral strip to tempt lots of pollack up to the 2 1/2lb mark. Had an excellent days sport using light spinning rods, had around 25 fish between us consisting mainly of pollack with a few coalies, mackeral and doggies to mix things up bit!

Both had a realy enjoyable day out, thats our last trip in the SW for a while, heading up to the Isle of Harris for 3 weeks of constant fishing this saturday!!! Tight lines!! :fish:

Nice report Lewis, the push net sounds like good fun.

Keep us up to date with your Harris trip, it's a place I really want to get to.

See you in Luce
