Hello Chaps, I'm starting up sea fishing again after a 25yr break and would like some advice on Bristol channel fishing/

1. for shore work on the English side and on mixed to rough ground what LB breaking strain line should I use

2. What LB shock leader should I use for 5-7oz gripers

3. Is a slosh sx 20 upto the job

4. What length and casting weight rods would you advise

Thanks in advance

Hi mate I would say a line from 20-25lb with an 80lb leader with a beach caster from 12-14ft with a casting weight of 4-8oz and someting that has a bit of backbone and the slosh should be fine also. Hop this helps

Thanks for the advice Tazer, I've managed to get myself 2 secondhand rods a sonik sk3 14 5-7 and a anyfish any where 14 six and bait, both in v good condition from a secondhand shop in Bristol, hopefully these will be up to the job.

I bought some line and shock leader earlier today from veal's online as it's about 200yds from my house, unfortunately I will have to take the line back as its the same color as the shock leader, one of many mistakes I will make :slap:

25lb line is way ott, it will pick uo too much tide and you wont get a lot on there for the walk back marks like brean and burnham. 18lb is plenty strong enough. The 80lb leader is fine as long as the rig bodys are the same and any load bearing swivels are rated 80lb+. Happy dangling :)
