Hi,
Is anyone interested in going to Sokotra/Socotra with a local tour operator and sharing a boat with me in e.g. march?

On the boats I have seen 3 people casting doesn't work very well. A groupsize of 2 or 4 would be ideal, to share a boat and a jeep (per 2 people) and to keep costs low. Living conditions there are very very basic. The people are poor, the boats cheap and the engines weak, but there are fish. Casting GT and a bit light game and jigging. We can mix in some sight seeing to take a break from casting.

Hi,
I'm back home from my trip to A_frica.

It seems that AirArabia is flying once a week via Abu Dhabi; therefore one or two weeks would be possible. I would favour two weeks and including some sightseeing as rest days. I guess the luggage restrictions are pretty tight. Ticket price at the beginning of the year were around 860$. I guess the flight has to be booked by a local agency. I'm in contact with a tour operator and try to verify everything.

Sorry, I didn't see your post.

I didn't go to Sokotra, but fished other parts of A_frica and near east in the last years. I would still be interested to go, that's why I ended up in this thread again ;P
I didn't check yet, but I guess the flight connection is still bad and flight prices rather high, that's why I didn't want to do this alone. Maybe I will think about booking a group tour with a foreign operator, but I would prefer finding a crazy GT angler for a split charter.

I would like to concentrate on GT popping. I would agree on some jigging, but that's certainly not my prefered method and the boats have no sonar. Some of the skippers know the area pretty well, but I have the feeling that the fishermen in the region don't target GTs and therefore don't know them well and many have no clue about modern sportfishing. I guess organizing a fish finder would be good for extensive jigging sessions.
