Intended just an hour or two but the bite didn't stop and we lost all idea of time Friday evening on the beach. The bite was hot, often with fish hooked up before we could get the rods in the holders after casting fresh baits out.

Salmon and tailor in the 3-4kg were plentiful and making great fresh baits for the night. Various small sharks and heaps of small stingrays were good for a bit of sport but eventually we left the fish biting with an early start the next morning chasing marlin.

The southern eagle ray is actually very good sport, they have incredible speed and leap very high from the water. I suppose when they are on the menu of various sharks, they need to be fast and agile in their turns, rather like a shark fight only faster.

They can be pretty easy to find if you burley deep gutters with rips. Tackle wise isn't that much different from the UK gear, in fact Im using an old penn inxs for the bigger sharks and rays, just cant break the thing!!!!!....even lobbing out baits of 500g. Yes reels are beefier but again just a cheap penn battle has been the biggest I use on sharks and rays.
