Hi all

I think this may have been asked a million times before so i apolagise in advance, Basically i have been toying with the idea about getting a boat for a few years now and have finally started to look into this in more depth.

I have got a few questions that i cannot seem to find answers to on ebay - Basicly what i need to know is how often i need to service an engine and what insurance i need ?

This is only going to be a small boat for me and my dad and we are not going to be going out a million miles neither. i am only wanting to spend max £2000

Is anyone aware of a site where i can call and get advice or even a marina where i could drive to talk to someone ? I live in cambridge but i am willing to travel anywhere in the UK for advice ! :marinheir

I really appriciate any help as i have come to a stalemate now and dont know where to turn.

Service really depends on the hours of use , but for most 1 service a year will be fine , Plug's , oil , Impellor etc , Flush out with freshwater after use will prolong it's life

A basic insurance policy will cost you about £100 a year

For insurance i use these guy's ..

Other information you may also find useful: you may already have found this 'sticky' thread on buying an outboard - well worth a read: http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105889

Budget a bit above your purchase price for some safety gear, even if included in the sale - you may well for instance find that flares are near/past their expiry date, and I would be very wary of second hand lifejackets - loads are not maintained properly if at all.

Lots of useful info here too: http://rnli.org.uk/upload/complete_eCD/fscommand/pop_up_safety.htm
