Looking at the Chris P fest a question was raised on Camera stand, my daughter bought me a Gorilla tripod for crimbo, basicaly it is a multi jointed rubber coated tripod that you can wrap around trees, poles etc and will hold most camer's, ( I think they do differrant sizes ) She had to buy it from the states, but it is now available in UK :

Bought one from Jessops in the high street a few months back. Wind the legs onto almost anything - boat rails, rod rest etc or use as a mini camera tripod. About £20 - quite brilliant. Believe there is now a stronger one for larger SLR cameras.
