I CURRENTLY HAVE A GARMIN 152 GPS ON MY BOAT AND AM THINKING ABOUT CHANGING IT FOR A CHART PLOTTER SUCH AS THE GARMIN 172C. IF I WAS TO DO THIS WOULD THE EXISTING WIREING AND ANTENA PLUG STRAIGHT IN AS I DONT REALY WANT TO RE WIRE IT. I TRIED E MAILING GARMIN BUT NEVER GOT AN ANSWER:boat:

I would think that it probably would. I am sure somebody on here must have both units that can give a definitive answer. Why not keep the GPS as well as a plotter? At least you will have a backup should one of them fail.

I sawpped a garmin 152 for garmin 230 and just unplugged the head unit and plugged the 180 straigh back in, the wiring was the same and the antenna worked perfectly,if that helps at all. the antenna will almost certainly work though as that same antenna later got passed on to a friend who uses it on a new garmin 178c
