I have just purchased a Shakespeare Agility Flattie 1-3oz Rod. When I push the three sections together, there is a couple of cm of spigots still showing ie they don't easily push all the way in. I don't want to break the rod or be unable to get it apart again, so was wondering how I should proceed. Any advice welcome

As above the gap allows for wear on the joint.
IMO on a new rod it is best to give the male section a rub with a carpenters pencil to stop the joint sticking. They can be a b****** to get apart if you don' t.

Exactly what has been said above, there is supposed to be a gap left for wear over the years, 20mm a bit much but perfectly usable. Give the male a rub with the pencil lead then gently insert into female turning as you go. Remove again (still turning) and clean off any excess carbon with a damp cloth, repeat the process two or three times and you may find it a bit better, whatever you do don`t sand it, kiss of death unless on a high speed lathe.

Thanks Guys - didn't realise that the two parts were not supposed to fully meet - does look untidy though! Will try the PTFE lubricant and the pencil graphite.

The PTFE works fine as an initial cure / fix, the pencil job is probably a more regular thing, I rub spigots down with pencil almost each time they are used, makes life very easy.
