You are going to feel such a loss of what to do once you have finished her (the boat dude not Linda!). It is about 6months or so after finishing a big project like this that all the bad times fade and all the fun and satisfaction take on a sort of rosey glow, and like a lunatic you start thinking it might be fun to take on another project.

I can relate to that totaly :)

Admiral Graff Spee, ideal project, not deep, slight hull damage, known location for salvage just of Montevideo 34°58′18″S 56°18′4″W , not too much corrosion to deal with only been down since 17 12 1939. A lot of the cosmetic superstructure has been removed, like guns, rangefinders, radar etc but who needs that, easier to restore.

4 months for Davy tops including the tow from the South Atlantic.

Titanic afterwards, give the guy a chance please.

LOL, You forgot the Mary Rose !!! :) some TLC from Davy, and some Epoxy...., and it would be sinking Spanish galleons in a matter of weeks..:)

I would of thought that with the skills that Orca has developed over the winter she wouldn't need any help with any of those wee jobs! :roll1:
LOL the skills are all there right enough:punk: but at the moment Im Working on the boat, keeping the house in order, taking my driving lessons and Sitting my HNC exams..... Holty's got it easy.... :bounce::bounce:

Mary Rose was sticks and string, think we are all petrol heads on here, Graf Spee had an interesting fuel system, one of the reasons it put into Montevideo in the first place, definate challenge for Davy to make it go vroom again.

Hiya,

Well another productive day, Linda finished cutting the ply for the transom

I finished off the uplifts for the hand bilge pumps, putting a stainless tube end on the hose and fitting it right down almost against the hull so it should be able to remove just about every drop of water from the keel when it's used. I also fitted the supports for the exhaust hose, using Ally flat bar rather than the temp wire mounts.

The steering cable is now fixed up against the underside of the beams and is well out the way of everything

We also finished the last bit of laminating on the marine ply for the keel bands then after a quick sand of the hull we secured the wood to the hull using balcotan. I opted for this method so that it could be done quickly and because it is only to hold the ply in place so that it can be laminated in with epoxy. The other reason for using it is because it foams up filling the joint completly so taking care of any low spots.

I'll give them both a day or so to make sure the glue has well set then I'll sand them down and fill any holes with bridging compound to get a nice smooth base for the epoxy.
