I'm in the market for a new rod around the £200 mark to use for what I call heavy beach fishing i.e 6oz or more, large baits, big tides and weed.

The two rods I'm thinking about are the Century C3 LD and the Ian Gold's International Match. Has anyone here had a chuck or fished with both that can provide some comparisions between the two. I know the Century has a through action and is a user friendly rod and well suited to OTG and aerialised styles which I mainly use, plus can chuck 200g the other side of 230 yards, so is well capable.

But I don't know much about the Ian Golds International Match, I've read and watched a video review over at Planetseafishing that is positive but there was little comment on the action of the rod.

Cheers

Hi DonBobo,
you could get a good second hand century CMC (carbon metal crest) for £200. I think it will be more suited to 6oz+ leads and big baits ect..... than the C3, I take it your on about mainly fishing Dungy point.

The general area of Dungy is where I often fish :fishing1:

Trouble with the Crest is the tip length, it won't fit in my car, I'm pretty sure that rod was designed as rock/rough rod and many use it on the field, possibly too much rod for me.

The International Match would be a good choice of rod and would cope adnmiraly but I think the Ian Golds Extractor would be a better bet for what you want it for, they are designed for the rougher stuff and heavy weed runs. I have used both in all conditions.:fishing:

6oz + bait is what it will be used for 99% of the time.

Are the actions of the two rods similar? I want something more through actioned and progressive this time rather than a tippy rod, and something user friendly to use on the beach.

It maybe a case of having to have the International Match, as I'm not sure an Extractor will fit in my car, will have to go and look at one or phone a tackle shop.

use an international match nearly all the time for my beach fishing, its not a tippy action and the rod is very smooth, tip was stiffer than my old compressor match but not stiff stiff, not sure if Id cast hard with anything more than 6oz and bait, I do cast 6 + a whole squid no problem but a 7 and squid is a bit much for the rod if your walloping it, I have cast that but the rod feels strained with OTG etc. its a good cod ray flatties whiting rod tho, it does have good bite detection too, from what ive seen of the CCC better that the C3.

I have just measured mine and with rod bag it measured 219cm which is just over 7' it should fit your car unless it's one of them two seaters.:wiggle:
No! the actions are different the Extractor would have a stiffer tip but has a more through action and is very forgiven in the cast.

Thanks for that, I think it would fit fine then.

Many thanks
