Here is a video of one of the ASF members ( Luke Day ) who along with a few of the others down here have satrted using the FMJ for our light beach fishing requirements .

Lukes rod has been custom built by himself and it is a top class beit of kit. I have also gotten myself a fully built up one and over the last few sessions have been using it matched with the Diawa Exceller 4500 DA. This outfit running 10 pound ULtima distance line and 40 pound tapered leaders is proving to be a top performer when matched with 3 oz lures or grip lead and clipped down rigs.

Really looking forward to getting into a few fish with it as the season warms up and will post up some results as and when I get them.

I am really interested in what you guys are also using as light outfits for Bass and Mackerel etc.
Looking forward to getting my hands on Zziplex Profile lite in the near future as well to see how they perform. A number of the ladies and guys targeting the smaller fish in the calmer waters are wanting something lighter than what we normally see on the beaches.

All feedback greatly appreciated :D

Hi Jeremy,

All of my clean beach fishing is now done with either Tip Tornado LD, or Zziplex Bass, both rods light enough to hold all day, and both will put 4oz out of sight, and both have great bite detection.

Just my take on things, no doubt others will have their own thoughts.

Regards

Just bought a 2-4 oz Shimano Aspire assf130mptl. Not used it yet so can't comment too much about it. It cost me about half the price of a built profile, is 100g lighter and comes with a reducer, sliding reel seat and top of the range fuji sic rings. All in all a bargain if it's as good as the 13ft 4-8oz version.

Dave ,

Thanks for the feedback, I too have the TTLD and am currently trying to source Zziplex Profile lite to see how they compare with my Century's as I have quite a few of them . have also played with the Bass but only for a short time and couldn't get a really understanding on how it would perform relative to the types of fishing I do.

The FMJ is a project because my daughter wanted something lighter than the LD.
Now I just have to convince my good lady to start fishing again and I would have anotehr reason to play around with more rods:1a:

Primo Hi-Flex,

I will check out that Shimano that you mentioned as I also have the Aspire 130MPT and find it a very light yet powerfull rod. I am however carefull where I use it because of the very low resin content in the blank.

Regards:)

I use Zziplex 2 piece bass and Profile getting a match tip for profile I also use an original Century Tip Tornado Ultralight.

These all work well for me as I am permanently in a wheelchair.

What I am trying to find is a way to utilise my arm power, one day I had a real go with my M4 got a real good cast away but scared myself sh1tless as the chair reared up and I thought for a moment I was going on my back, not surprisingly this tends to dampen my enthusiasm.

What I am giving some serious thought to is using one of my Century NG 13' SU rods off the beach has a nice powerful easy action which won't wreck bait, will use it with a Daiwa TS5000T.

I do need to get rid of those damn silly big rings though seems to me to be nothing more than a nuisance.

Cheers Dave

Still they say no pain no gain, I have ordered a blank and will be setting it up with my own guide sizes and position to balance with the reel i am planning on using ( ABU 4600 ) . Will report back on it once I have it in my hands and its opperational:wiggle:
