I am looking to buy a new rod and I like the look of the century rods but there is so many of them to choose from? I fish clean/light mixed ground in the Bristol channel so I am looking for a rod that can cast a 6oz lead and bait a fair distance and that can hold up in the tides. I like the look of the tip tornado range
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance Matthew

for clean to mixed i would use a tip tornado sport or the match or ttld, the carbon metal express would be good aswell. for mixed to rougth the carbon metal crest will do the job better off going down the tackle shop and having a feel to see which rod will suit u best.

i use my mk1 match in the upper channel with no problems and it can put a 6oz a long way away. i would go for the match or sport if you wanna have the versitility of fishing over mixed/rough. cm or cme is always an option though but i dont think the ld or lite will hold up in our tides mate. i would go for a match pesonally but thats only because i got 1 :D

I also like the look of the match but I was wondering how heavy the rod is compared to my hellbender hs rods an what advantages has a tip tornado match got over my hellbenders?

Thanks for the replies Matthew

Personally use a pair of Carbon Metals in the bristol channel and find they are superb and hold up very well in the tide etc.

have also used the CCC Ld's in the channel which were very good but I did find the tips not great at showing bites.

As you've asked for rods in the Tip Tornado range and fish clean to mixed surely in that range the Supermatch would be the only rod that fits your bill!!! Its sits right in the middle of the match and sport....
got a bit more power than the match while nowhere near as stiff as the sport.
Not stiff at all and really used friendly while still sending a lead probably as far as you'll be able to and a top of the range fishing rod!!!
If you hadnt wanted the 6oz Id have said the TT LD wnd while it'll still send 6oz out in that range Id defo say the Supermatch,it really is a phenomenal rod!!!
Other than that the CCC LD i'd say should be a rod you consider!!!
IMO I'd stay away from some of the stiffer rod mentioned,I know the Bristol Channel has some really strong currents but do you really want a poker stiff rod???
For me there really for rough ground fishing where your dragging through all sorts and need a quick pick up off the sea bed....
The supermatch has some real power middle section to butt, has a soft enough tip to not rip the lead out of the sea bed which for me lets you fish as light as possible plus they show up all bites...
Haven't used the CCC LD but from everything Ive heard I think it'd be go-er,the only question mark Ive heard is bite detection isn;t what it should be.....
The TT LD is a contender but maybe just not quite the guts for you....
Its gonna be worth chattin to lads who actualy fish and know where your going to be fishing and see what there using and what they reccoment and most of all try and have a go.....]
This is just my opinion as that'll be there's....Doesn't mean it'll work for yo mate.........

I use the cmcrests all over the channel and must say for their power they show up the smallest bites don't move in any tide and can cast a weight up to 8oz to hold in the biggest tides the channel can throw at you,,,
but as you have asked about the tornado range got to be the sport,,

Hi mate I dont own any of the rods from century.
I am however also looking to buy a new rod. So I have took a very good long look at the Century range.
Guessing you mostly fish newport and above. Knowing first hand the type of some of the ground you mainly fish over I would say the TT sport will be too stiff in the tip and feel overgunned, Unless you are going to fish rougher ground further down the channel.
As sugested beforehand if youve got your heart set on Century then the Carbon metal cccld would be better suited. Or if it does have to be from the TT range go for the super match. again just my opinion.
Not everybody suits every rod and never buy one just because everybody else say its the best!! It may not suit you!! (Fantastic for the 2nd hand market).
Best thing. Actually the first thing you should do before splashing out that amount of money on a rod is have a waggle of each one.
Maybe go go along to a surfcastwales meet and have a go on the different rods that youll see there and chat to there owners.

I would definately think about the C3LD. I used my one on the peat ledges at Magor and surrounding area as well as Aberthaw east on the boulders and west on the ledges for the hounds with good effect. Its a light and slim rod but deceptively powerful so dont under rate this one for the job. The TTSM tip may be too soft as i have the MK1 version for mainly clean ground work.

tip tornado match is a lovelly rod, easy to bend but not soft if you catch my drift. slim, light and chucks a 6oz more than far enough. would look for an older version though, better than the new ones.

I use the rods in question, Century's and Abu's, the century's are a bit stiffer actioned than the hellbenders, other than that ,no advantage where i fish,
( clean/mixed ground ) all perfectly nice rods to fish with
