How often do you change your main line ?
I know that this is going to be variable so lets consider that most of us with limited experience will be using mono on a FS reel.
I know that line will degrade but will all lines degrade at the same rate regardless of the initial quality / cost ?
My local tackle shop advises yearly

I'm not sure what everyone else thinks but i change my line every six months depending on how often iv been out, if iv been out a lot i might change it earlier.

I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for, i wouldn't expect miracles if your using cheap line.

Hope this helps :fishing1:

I like yearly change of line around now before cod season starts, i only fish once or twice a month pending on seasonal fish activity...

If fished on a more regular basis i'll change my line every 6 months.

I keep my line/reel away from UV and any form of extreme heat to preserve line quality whilst in storage for next session.

Mmmhugh....?!?!!

It depends on what kind of ground you fish mate and how much line you use normally. I've just started with a multi so my line will be replaced pretty often due to overruns. If it gets rough cut it off untill you have to replace it (due to too little on your spool). Sunlight does degrade line so as a bare minimum once a year I'd say.

NB Shockleader should be replaced every time you fish!

My exact thoughts, i'd cry if my line gave up the ghost on a fish of a lifetime because its knackered, i do alot of mulleting and change my line after every trip, and rough ground fishing i go through miles and miles of line.

Thanks for the replies
I thought that a yearly change was overdoing it a bit but obviously not.
I am using ultima power plus and wondered if the better quality lines would need changing less frequently but I suppose that the type of ground that you are fishing over will have the greatest effect.
One thing I have noticed with using big fixed spool reels is that they take about 600m of line and the line is sold on 977m spools so that I need to buy 2 lots, it the waste that gets me

Use the spare stuff for hook snoods and rig making etc mate. It cuts down on the waste. What you fishing for buddy if you've got 600m of line on a spool? I would've thought half that would be fine for most cases, or am I missing somthing here?

(still learning BTW)
