Anyone got any stories of people cheating in matches, or cases of extreme rule bending?
One year in the Zziplex Southern League, the penultimate match was fished at Pevensey Bay on a neap tide and brisk wind. There had been no fish caught all week, and it looked unlikely many would return to the scales. Just one sizeable fish could have made the difference between failure and success (and qualifying for the finals!) This particular night I was fishing next to a well known Hampshire angler with a big nose. He came wandering over with another guy in tow. This turned out to be someone I knew from a different team. I was asked to verify that a so called caught whiting was actually very suspicious. On inspection the fish was very dead, very cold and slightly solid in the middle! It's colour was a very "dead grey". I was asked to countersign a written complaint, against the other guy, for cheating. This I did, and in the pub afterwards the "cheat" admitted it was just a hoax, although he tried to get the fish signed in!
Usually, anyone caught cheating would be banned from fishing, but one of his team mates was a big f*cker and started threatening to cave a few heads in, so the organisers backed down and let him continue to fish!! The following season, the offending angler gave up fishing!
