Fished clacton pier the early hours this morning. Sat in kitchen at midnight deciding whether to go or not, and was fishing by 1am!
Only had squid n blacks but thought I'd have a few hours, arrived to find half a dozen others on the pier already and a sea as flat as a witches tit!!
Flat sea = whiting!! Had about a dozen before I called it a day at 4am! Missed a slack liner second cast - was reeling one rod in and thought I'd snagged the other line!!
Hopefully the wind will arrive as forecast and stir it up a bit!

Sounds a bit like the other night. It's all a bit hit and miss. I'm sure those coddles are there we just need a good blow to break the whiting shoals up so the cod ave a chance to get to the bait. The other night, the ting were on a bait virtually as soon as I'd tightened up.
From the reports and heresay, daytime has thrown up more codling than nighttime.
