well ..we all met up at brighton marina just before 8am to spend the day afloat with ray and mick on the grey viking..weather was perfect hardly a breath of wind flat seas and a low tide at about 8.30 so we had all the flood and a bit of ebb to do some serious damage to the cod stocks!!!!
on the boat were the following wsf members

walking worm
cascars
pedro the fisherman
fuzball
hooklineandsunk
groomyd
ivecaughtabigone
1 non member ..tom i think?? im cr*p on names buti remember he did have nice hair lol
ray b (skipper)

as you can see probably the best wsf have to offer lol...most of us had never met other than online so there was lots of the usual banter ...not about fishing tho most of it was about me being welsh and sheep?? dont see any conection myself!!!!!...anyway lets get onto the fishing

we started on a bit of rough ground about 3 miles out that had been producing decent fish of late ....i made the descision to go uptiding whilst everyone else went downtide(i dont take subtle hints!!)..baits for the day were the usual cuttle, squid, lug and cascars brought the biggest prawns you ever saw!!!!!!
every one tucked into the cuttle with the exception of me(you seeing a trend here!!)i went for 4 nice big juicey lug banged uptide...ray got the coffee on and we all started to get acquainted(most people call it p**s taking) would like to say now that within minutes we were all into rod bending double figure cod but i cant coz it didnt happen well not for the rest anyway
for me it was different had a nice little bit bit of slack wound down and cod on!!! itd soooo nice getting the 1st fish of the day it came aboard at just over 10lb(3rd double this year) this was the start of a day full of me being a p**s taking bar steward....i come over here take your jobs your women and now your fish lol
things picked up from here and over the next hour or 2 we added a few more coddling around the 4/5lb mark pedro had 2 ivecaughtabigone had one and i think it was fuzzball had one(might be wrong there)also we had some decent whiting along with the pins
about 11ish we decided to try something different and have a go bait fishing on one of the wrecks...so off we steamed to a nice looking wreck and were immediately into big dog pout and congers!!!!...we lost most of the congers as we were not really geared up for them but cascars after losing a nice on on the surface got us off the mark with a nice 20lber and pedro followed him with one around the 15lb mark ...we all lost congers as we couldnt keep them out of the wreck as we were a bit indergunned!!!...but it was good fun
gotta give it to mick ..she fought her 1st conger until it stripped the gears in her tld...then fought the 2nd one for about 30 mins before it broke the rod tip ...then she carried on fighting it with a broken rod for another 10 mins until it snapped the rod in 2!!!!!
lost count of how many pout we had but there were a LOT!!!!!..but unfortunately we had no cod on the wreck...but if you dont try you dont know
w edecided to head back in to the 3 mile mark for the last hour to see if we could scratch out some more cod to end the day....steamed back in to find the netters had hammered the area and there were nets everywhere!!!!!...so it was with one last effort we all piled on new baits and cast out but the cod gods were not with us (nothing to do with the nets)well not until the last cast of the day when i carried on what i started and pulled in a nice 6lber caught on uptided lug...that was the end of the day or so we thought but 2 mins later cascars hooked into one that unfortunately spat the hook
so to sum up the day we had
6 cod to 10lb
2 congers to 20lb
couple of doggies
and loads of big pout and some good whiting over 1 1/2lb

all in all a good day and me being the modest person i am i never said a word about having the 2 biggest cod of the day(cascars...conger dont count lol)..

it was a great day with a great bunch of blokes and girl i would be happy to share a boat with (im not sure you guys think the same lol) and really hope i get to fish with you all again soon..i know your waiting to have your say now so im off now need food

catch you all soon thanks boys and mick was a blast

oh and must not forget the skippers contribution of a doggie!!! at least you didnt blank this time ray lol

What do you call a sheep tied to a lamp post in Cardiff

A leisure centre!

Thoroughly enjoyed the day out, thanks to Ray and Mick for the invite and for the crew for the banter and chat ................ not a great day's fishing but a good day to be afloat.

Tried the Pout this evening by the way and fillets fried in seasoned flour were really nice!!! Just as good as whiting!

A great day in perfect conditions, with fantastic company (well except for some some bloke with a funny accent that kept going on about having the biggest fish:laugh:).

Cracking report Jay, i have seldom seen such a motley crew!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously looks like you all had a great day and the Sea looked superb well done.

P.S. You can have our women, just leave the fish alone!

PPS. I stayed with friends at Bridge-end a few years back when i was in Taff to watch the Hammers in the play-off final and lets just say Bobby Zamora wasnt the only Cockney boy to score that weekend!!!! Rob

Hi Mick

I think it best to take the reel off and find a tougher rod to put it on.

Then leave the short piece of rod but onboard, ready to hit a certain welsh wizard with at some future date.

I was thinking of another way of using the broken but, and the but end of a **** taking welshman,:headhurt: but could not suggest that to a lady.:hypocrite

Apart from the broken rod and the nets sounds like a great trip, a calm day a few fish and great banter.
Just our sort of day:bleh:

Sounds like you had a good day Zippy, welsh lug and uptiding sound familier, I am sure they are not the first cod caught that way:yeah:

Charlie

Me thinks I won't be fishing for a day or two ............................

What a fantastic idea although I think if I could have kept in in one piece and placed it sideways in his mouth I might have had a better chance of 5 mins peace. I shall be considering this when buying a new rod. This might just sway me into to getting one that is a lot longer. :clap2:
