For shore fishing it's after a big wind it brings the bigger fish closer in. For baits try black lugworm, squid, mackerel, crab, ragworm, razorfish, mussels, anything like that and you cant go wrong.Use a pennel rig for cod or a pulley rig.

thats assuming your talking about from the beach , but from the boat this time of year is mainly rough ground fishing (due to poor weather) in this situation you can try artifitials such as shads , pirks , even red-gills have been known to boat cod , or bait fishing squid , crab(peeler) , lug , rag ,and makeral are all good baits, try to fish as tight to the bottom as possible on pennel rig

CAUGHT MY BEST COD ON THE EAST COAST AT NIGHT , EASTERLY WIND AND IT WAS SNOWING IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY, ON A WHOLE SQUID. THOSE ARE THE CONDITIONS THAT BRING THE COD IN. BLOODY HARD FISHING THOUGH, BUT WELL WORTH IT. COD WILL TAKE MOST BAITS WHEN THEY ARE HUNGRY, LIKE BIG DUSTBINS SWIMMING IN THE SEA, BUT I SUPPOSE PEELER CRAB AND SUID AND RAGWORM ARE FAVOURITES OF THIERS.
