my lad got this one on 1 full large Mack and half a dogfish fished on a 200lb wire trace( some people prefer heavy mono) and a 10/0 hook

theory behind cocktail is the mack gives the scent but the LSD lasts a long time on the hook so gives the skate something to eat when it finds it.

I think Coalies are a popular bait for them too

Never managed to catch one myself yet :(

I'm sure if your man Davy Holt looks in he will give you a much better rundown of whats what.

Davy has probably caught more skate than anyone else in Scotland. He fishes for them nearly every weekend.

That one was estimated at 180lbs from the measurements.

Hi

Davys away at Lochaline all week skate fishing, so should be able to help you out when he gets back. And now there at Orkney, no doubt there may be a few lurking in Shetland too!

Watch this vidio of us all out skate fishing 2 weeks back... 2 skate landed both over 150lb Youl see how the 'catchalot' setup is...

Dowload the vid here... http://www.cem-services.co.uk/hobbi...tland_skate.wmv
