Hi,
Going to the Saint-Raphael area, near Saint Tropez in September. Does anybody know if thare are any restrictions with regards to fishing in harbours , marinas, or breakwaters ect.
Also, are licences required in France to sea fish

There is no licence for sea fishing in france, and you can fish anywhere as long as you have access.

Was a bit further down the coast a fortnight ago. If you fish during the daytime take very fine tackle with you. Plenty of small bream and the like amongst the rocks. Most tackle shops sell ragworms (ask for vers durs) and occassionally have something like small lug (vers americains). These baits are best used before the sunbathers arrive or after the sun sets. Leger them for gilthead bream, yes there are still some around. Float-fishing bread for mullet is also fun. Don't expect too much, but I did see photographs of amberjack in the 30-40 lb range which had been caught on rod and line in the Bay of Saint Tropez. If you're after the really bigguns enquire whether the tuna run is on. You'll have to travel way out though.
